Add GiveDirectly to your will or trust

By making a will that includes GiveDirectly, you can send life-changing money to more people in need, even beyond your lifetime.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Make your estate plan at no cost through FreeWill. It takes about 20 minutes to create a legally valid will. During the process, you’ll be asked to enter details about your planned gift.

  2. Work with a lawyer. Here is some suggested language that will ensure your gift is carried out as you intended. We recommend keeping your gift unrestricted as our programs may change over time.

“I [name], of [city, state ZIP], bequeath the sum of $[Amount] or [Number] percent of my estate to GiveDirectly, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation with a business address of 33 Irving Place, New York, NY 10003 and a tax identification number 27-1661997 for its unrestricted use and purpose.”

Once complete, confirm your plans with us by filling out the Legacy and Planned Giving Form below to let us know you’ve included GiveDirectly in your will or trust.

🇬🇧 UK donors can leave gifts to GiveDirectly’s UK organization using these details:

Designate GiveDirectly as beneficiary of your accounts

Some of your assets, like retirement accounts and life insurance, let you directly choose who receives them after your death, separate from your will. Designating GiveDirectly as a beneficiary can have a big impact on the lives of our recipients and may help your heirs avoid unwanted taxes.

Types of non-probate assets include:

  • 401(k)s
  • IRAs
  • Life insurance policies
  • Joint bank accounts
Update your beneficiaries
  1. Obtain a change of beneficiary form by contacting your account administrator or downloading it directly from your provider’s website.
  2. Name GiveDirectly, along with the percentage or amount you’d like GiveDirectly to receive, on the beneficiary form.

    Legal name: GiveDirectly, Inc.
Address: 33 Irving Place, New York, NY 10003
    Federal tax ID number: 27-1661997

  3. Once complete, confirm your plans with us by filling out the Legacy and Planned Giving Form below to let us know you’ve designated GiveDirectly as a beneficiary of your account.
