In 2024, DAF sponsors made up 11 of the top 20 charities. That means that $67 billion was stored in DAF accounts instead of going to nonprofits.
We want to make it easier for GiveDirectly donors to give from their DAF. So this year, we raised $100,000 in match funds so you can multiply your DAF gift. While match funds last, your DAF donation will be 1.5x matched, which means every $1,000 will turn into $1,500 for families in poverty.
Your money might be growing in your DAF account, but it also multiplies when you give it away. Research on GiveDirectly’s program in Kenya found that cash multiplies by 2.5x in the local economy without inflation, as recipients spend their transfers at local businesses.
And the impact lasts — long-term studies of cash find lasting gains in earnings, work, education, and child development. Results from our Kenya program show recipients are spending 12% more than similar families who did not receive cash, even up to 7 years later.

Bonus: Claim even more match funds through #HalfMyDAF
#HalfMyDAF is another campaign that was launched in 2020 to inspire more giving through DAFs. When DAF holders commit to spending down at least half of their DAF balance, their grants are eligible for matching funds.
To get matched, grants are randomly selected in a drawing to receive dollar-for-dollar matches up to $5,000, with one nonprofit receiving matching grants of up to $25,000.

Frequently asked questions
Are other types of donations eligible for the match?
No. This match is specifically targeted at DAF donations so we can encourage people to move more money from their DAFs. We will have other fundraisers and matches in December where you can make other types of donations.
Will I receive confirmation that my donation has been matched?
Yes. You must submit the form on this page and select the option on your DAF platform to share your information with us; otherwise your donation will show as anonymous to our team. Once we’ve received your gift, we will send you an email that we’ve processed your donation and confirm whether it was matched.
If I don’t already have a DAF, should I open one to take advantage of this match?
This campaign is primarily aimed at donors who already have a DAF. While some funds sit in DAFs unused, many donors actively use them for their giving and can claim additional tax benefits by using them. Talk to your financial advisor to see if they would recommend a DAF for your financial situation.
