We gave single-use cameras to 4 villages — see what they captured

We distributed cameras to select recipients and asked them to document their village as it changed. The result: stories captured and told by communities experiencing extreme poverty in Kenya, Rwanda, and Liberia.

Last month, we distributed Fujifilm QuickSnaps to select recipients in Kenya, Rwanda, and Liberia and asked them to document their village as they received cash transfers. Over the course of November, these photographers captured their neighbors’ stories and projects.

Our team returned at the end of the month to collect the cameras, the details, and consent forms from the subjects. Then we developed them and gave the photographer copies. These are stories of communities experiencing extreme poverty, documented and told by those communities:

Alfred photographs Wheasayn, Liberia

Each of the 116 households in Alfred’s village received four monthly $300 cash transfers.

Augustin photographs Muganza, Rwanda

Each of the 243 households in his village received $800 split over two transfers.

Jedidah photographs Bomet, Kenya

Each of the 151 households in her village received $1000 split over two transfers.

Raymond photographs Kilifi, Kenya

Each of the 94 households in his village received $1000 split over two transfers.
