What is the Educational Stipend for 12th graders?

To support students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) exam in 2020, the Ministry of Education in Liberia through the generous support of USAID has set up the Educational Stipends cash transfer scheme. This program will provide cash stipends to students to meet the cost of transportation to school, daily food and other needs before the WASSCE exam.

The educational stipends program will be delivered by GiveDirectly on behalf of the Ministry of Education. Stipends will be sent to all successfully enrolled students via mobile money.

Students successfully enrolled should expect to receive a total of US$ 50 (10,000 LRD) paid in two installments of US$ 25 (5,000 LRD) each. View program FAQs here.

Who is eligible?

All 12th grade students registered to complete the WASSCE exam, from public and private schools across all counties can enroll in the program.

To enroll please call 4483 from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Calls to this number are free.

How do I enroll?

To receive the stipend, students must have a SIM card registered for mobile money in their own name or the name of a trusted adult. Students who have a mobile money account registered in their own name will receive the stipends earlier than students who provide a number registered in the name of a trusted adult.
